Doctorate in 1982 and habilitation in botany in 1990 at the Graf Eberhard University of Tübingen.

Head of the "Biodiversity and Plant Interaction" department from his appointment at the University of Hohenheim in 1993 until his retirement in 2018.

 

Positions held within the University:

2001-2009 Member of the University Council

2005-2016 Ombudsperson of the University of Hohenheim

2008-2018 Managing Director of the Institute of Botany

 

Research focus:

- In the context of biodiversity research, the systematics and evolution of asteraceae, in particular the genus Helianthus (sunflower), and oomycetes (downy mildew fungi) were the focus of research.

- The physiological and chemical interaction between host plant and pathogen formed a second research focus, which led to a DFG research group in Hohenheim and intensive cooperation with agricultural science departments.

- The third research focus was the analysis and biosynthesis of natural plant substances in glandular hairs, in particular bioactive terpenes and flavonoids.

 

These research topics resulted in:

15 state examination theses, 18 bachelor theses, 51 diploma/master theses, 23 dissertations and 1 habilitation.

The research results were reflected in a total of 136 publications in internationally peer-reviewed journals.
